Family endures Depression, wars

Anyone who has resided in the Martinsville, Morgantown and Cope areas during the past 90 years could hardly escape running into at least one of the family members of James E. and Rosetta Rosie Sanders Sichting. They lived on a farm during the Great Depression and they had a tough time putting food on the table and clothes on the backs of their 11 children. He also took highway and factory jobs to keep his family fed and warm. The couple had nine sons, Francis Peewee, Dale, Paul, Harold, Lloyd, Victor Vic, Dean, Wilbur Web and Lester Les, and two daughters, Lois (Carl) and Marie (Housand). All are living except for Lois and Dale, who both died in 2005. Son Victor said that when his brother Dale was just a small boy, he complained to his mother that he was hungry.
