Teen apologizes in court for death of friend in wreck

LEXINGTON

An 18-year-old man pleaded guilty yesterday to involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of his best friend in a car wreck last year.

Brian Christopher Lindsey apologized in court to the family of Alexander David Settle, an 18-year-old senior at North Davidson High School who would have graduated last June.

Settle was in Lindsey's car when it went off the road during a race with Settle's stepbrother.

"It was bad judgment on my part, and if there was anything I could do to take it back, I would," Lindsey said in Davidson Superior Court, standing beside his attorney, Stephen Barnhill.

Judge Mark Klass gave Lindsey a suspended sentence of 16 to 20 months in jail and five years of probation. At the request of prosecutors as part of a plea agreement, Klass dismissed charges of speed competition and reckless driving.
