Tracy McClard, 41, of Jackson said Wednesday that her son, Jonathan McClard, did not have a history of depression before he hanged himself Jan. 4 in a prison cell."I think it was because he was scared to death about where he was going," she said.McClard had been serving a 30-year sentence after shooting another teen last year. He began his sentence at a correctional center in Bowling Green in November, where he stayed with just one other teenage offender who also had been tried as an adult."That was fine. But McClard was required to join an adult prison population when he turned 17, and was in the process of being transferred to the Southeast Correctional Center in Charleston. He hanged himself at the Eastern Reception Diagnostic and Correctional Center in Bonne Terre.
